When it comes to off-road credentials, no brand other than maybe Land Rover/Range Rover comes close to the heritage that Jeep enjoys. Jeep owners hold national Jamborees each year where they take their beloved vehicles off-road, share tips and enjoy a sense of camaraderie that you just don’t’ get when you buy a Kia.
But even with a super loyal following of devoted owners, you still have to do the work to maintain your elevated and premiere positioning in the marketplace. Having worked at a Chrysler/Jeep service department when the lasts generation Grand Cherokee came out, I was very put off by its cheap feeling interior, poor visibility and cramped interior quarters. It just wasn’t one of the class leaders like the first generation Grand Cherokee.
